DETAILS
In tandem with the Awards Gala, WINGS hosts an Explorers Forum that showcases the work, challenges and expeditions of the most recent cohort of WINGS Women of Discovery, who present their research before their peers and the public; attending Fellows and Flag Carriers may also present recent initiatives and expeditions. The Forum thus serves to bring credit and broader recognition to their work while also act as an ideas ecosystem, a platform for education, and a connector to the next generation by introducing female junior scientists and explorers to female colleagues who can serve as role models, mentors and supporters. SPEAKERS: DR. KARLETTA DAANÉ CHIEF (Diné) focuses on watershed hydrology, unsaturated flow in arid environments, how natural and human disturbances affect soil hydrology, and the effects of climate change on water resources and Indigenous people. JILL HEINERTH is a Canadian cave diver, underwater explorer, writer, photographer, and filmmaker. More people have walked on the moon than have been to some of the places Jill Heinerth has explored right here on earth. Jill’s expeditions include exploring and mapping some of the world’s most significant submerged caves, documenting ancient Mayan remains, and collaborating with scientists and engineers. DR. RAE WYNN-GRANT is a wildlife ecologist with an expertise in uncovering how human activity influences carnivore behavior and ecology. In particular, she focuses on the ecological and social drivers of human-carnivore conflict. SEFRA ALEXANDRA - The Seed Huntress - is an ethnobotanist on perennial expedition to preserve global seed biodiversity to rewild our landscapes. As a fellow of the Crop Trust, Sefra highlighted the vital role played by the global seed banking system - the Genebank Platform - in safeguarding the diversity of crop wild relatives.
